A new FM radio station and SMS alert service would soon be launched in the metropolis under the supervision of traffic police.
The project would be initiated under the e-policing programme, a police official said here on Tuesday.
It was aimed at disseminating information to the people regarding traffic jams, alternative routes and reasons of obstruction in the flow of vehicular traffic.
In this connection SMS alerts would also be sent through mobile phones, it was further stated.
Meanwhile, Sindh IGP Shahid Nadeem Baloch chaired a meeting at the Central Police Office (CPO) here.
He directed the officials concerned that contact should also be established with various mobile phone companies and service providers for the SMS alert service.
It was informed that the range of the FM radio station would be within a radius of 50 kilometres while the studio for the purpose would be established in the CPO.
Further, it was informed during the meeting that the frequency of 88.8 had been allocated for the police’s FM radio station and it would also air reports regarding the weather.
The FM radio service would be completely non-commercial and its administrative and operational matters would be looked into by the city’s traffic police.
