PML-N enhance education budget, strengthen HEC

The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) which emerged as the largest party in the elections on Tuesday declared its commitment to increasing the education budget to 4 percent of the GDP by 2018 and promised to strengthen the Higher Education Commission (HEC)’s automony.

PML-N’s Rozina Alam Khan said that her party had always endeavoured to reform the education system for for the country’s development.

She said that her party’s manifesto committed to the higher education sector’s uplift, with special emphasis on strengthening the HEC.

Khan who also served as the Senate Education Standing Committee Chairperson lauded the HEC for its continuous efforts of promoting higher education and raising the standards of education in Pakistan, despite budget constraints.

HEC Chairman Dr Javed R Laghari said that it was a good omen that for the first time in the country all leading political parties had given importance to education in their manifestos.

“It is a good sign that the country’s politicians have realized that no nation can achieve progress without educating the youth”, he added.
