Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader and former Punjab chief minister Shahbaz Sharif on Monday dismissed allegations of election rigging in Punjab and said that any such accusations were baseless.

Speaking to various delegations, Shahbaz Sharif urged the people to strive for a prosperous Pakistan by setting aside election differences.

“I wish that all parties sit with the PML-N for the sake of nation building,” he said.

“We all have to work together for the welfare and well-being of our people,” he added.

He said that allegations of rigging during elections in Punjab were baseless and people had also refused to buy all such claims. He advised those who had lost elections to review their policies and attitude towards general masses instead of making false claims.

“No party can call itself the true representative of people while ignoring the needs of clerks who have to travel by bus, energy-starved shopkeepers, students from government institutions, poor farmers and millions of other downtrodden Pakistani men and women,” the former chief minister said.

“Now, when people have given a fresh mandate to the PML-N, it is my utmost desire that the people of Pakistan work hand-in-hand for nation building and a strong, prosperous Pakistan,” he said.

  1. PML (N) did a lot better than expected (most estimates had put PML (N) securing 90-95 seats).

PTI performed below the expectations (a lot of estimates had put PTI at 50-70). During a visit to Toronto in December 2012 the local Asian channel lead said to me that PTI will be around 40. I guess he was right.

There has been tempering but not a lot and it was limited to some seats.

Karachi came out the worst. EC will have to do a lot better in providing security and backup plans in case of the staff were unavailable for some reason. It is no-good for the Chief Election Commissioner to give a light hearted statement on this whilst smiling. In fact it is pathetic.

One seat in Karachi (Ref Nabeel Gabool) pocketed 3 votes per second which is impossible.
