Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) Secretary Ishtiaq Ahmad Khan on Monday said peaceful elections were held across the country except in some constituencies.
Talking to reporters in Islamabad ‚ he said 90 percent results of the National and provincial assemblies elections had been received and hoped that the remaining would be received by midnight on Monday.
Khan said the Election Commission had already ordered re-polling in 43 polling stations of NA-250 Karachi and it would be held within next 10 days.
He said district returning officers‚ returning officers‚ Sindh provincial election commissioner and district police officers had been asked to submit reports on rest of the constituencies of Karachi by tomorrow.
Khan said the Election Commission would take further decision in light of these reports.
Secretary Election Commission said if anyone had any solid proof of grave irregularities or violation of law during the polling from across the country‚ he could send it to the Election Commission and the commission would consider action under Peoples Representative Act‚ 1976.
Khan said after the polling, the next phase of election petitions would begin soon.
The secretary said 14 election tribunals had already been set throughout the country for that purpose. Of these‚ five were established in Punjab and three each in Sindh‚ Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
He said retired sessions judges had been appointed to these tribunals, which would decide the petitions within a hundred and twenty days.
