PML-N leadership meets at Raiwand

Pakistan Muslim League – Nawaz chief Nawaz Sharif has called a meeting of party leaders in Raiwind as unofficial officials reflected a PML-N majority in the country’s historic general elections held on May 11.

The meeting is expected to discuss questions pertaining to government formation and the possibilities of striking alliances with other political parties.

Earlier on Saturday, the Sharif brothers claimed victory in the general elections, announcing that the elder Sharif would stake claim for prime ministership.

Speaking to his supporters in Lahore, Nawaz Sharif thanked the nation for reposing trust in him.

Nawaz Sharif has remained prime minister twice – in 1990 and 1997 – but both of his governments were prematurely dismissed, once by then president Ghulam Ishaq Khan and then in 1999 in a military coup by former military ruler General (retd) Pervez Musharraf.
