At least 36 killed in Election Day violence

At least 36 people were killed and dozens of others injured in incidents of firings and violence during polling across the country on Saturday.

Six people were killed and three sustained injuries in an armed clash between two rival groups at Kali Faizoo polling station of NA-262 in Chaman area of Balochistan, angry people torched three vehicles at the clash side.

Another person was killed in an armed clash during polling at Gulistan polling station of the same area in Balochistan.

Two people fell prey and another injured in indiscriminate firing between rival groups at a polling station of Khuzdar’s provincial constituency PP-37, while two more were shot dead in Kalat’s NA-268 constituency.

Two people lost their life in Toba Tek Singh’s provincial constituency PP-366, a political activist and a child fell prey of indiscriminate firing at Taj Colony area of Nawab Shah’s PS-24 constituency.

A female polling agent also succumbed to injuries after being injured in the firing incident.

A man was shot dead and seven injured in open firing in Kandhkot’s NA-210 constituency.

A political worker was killed in Tharparkar’s PS-53 constituency, another person was killed and five injured in an exchange of fire between two rival groups in Shikarpur’s NA-201 constituency.

A man lost his life during a fight over pasting of party poster in Bannu’s PK-74 constituency, while four people sustained injuries in a blast near polling station of NA-10.

Two people were shot dead during firing outside a polling station in Mian Chanoo, while 15 people sustained injuries in various incidents of firing and violence at various polling stations in Naushehro Feroze.

In another attack, at least 14 people were killed and over twenty injured in a powerful blast targeting a political convoy in Chattar area of Naseerabad in Balochistan.

The bomb targeted the supporters of a local election candidate.

The dead and the injured were being treated at various hospitals in the vicinity.

Meanwhile, at least 10 people were killed and 30 others injured in a blast that occurred near an Awami National Party (ANP) office at Dawood Chowrangi, Landhi area of the Karachi.

Police said ANP leader Amanullah Mehsud, candidate for PS-128, was the target of the blast.

He escaped the attack unhurt. The explosives had been planted in a rickshaw, the sources added.

Also, a suicide blast in the Manghopir area of Karachi killed two Rangers personnel and wounded at least three others.

Per details, a suicide bomber on a motorcycle crashed his bike into a Rangers checkpost near Naya Nazimabad.

The explosion in Mianwali Colony of Manghopir was followed by sounds of heavy firing.

The Quick Response Force, comprised of police, rangers, and army personnel, was immediately deployed to the area.

There were reports of a second suicide bomber in the area as well and a search was launched.

In Kalat, at least two people were killed and four others, including two law-enforcement personnel, injured in a firing incident at a polling station in PB-37.

Officials said unknown armed motorcyclists came outside a polling station in Sard Jungle area in PB-37 Sorab-Kalat and opened indiscriminate fire.

“Two civilians who came there for casting votes were killed in the firing and four others including two personnel of a law enforcement agency were injured,” they maintained.

In Peshawar, eight people were injured when a roadside blast went off suddenly in front of the women’s polling station, Larama, situated on main Charsadda road on Saturday, police confirmed.

An explosive device planted in a parked motorcycle in front of the women polling station in the jurisdiction of NA-3 went off, injuring eight people, including an 8-year-old child and a policeman.

At least three people were killed and four others sustained injuries in an armed clash between two rival groups over vote casting near a designated polling station in Killi Faizo area of Chaman.

Levies force said two rival groups opened fire at each other over vote casting. As a result, three of them died, while four others sustained injuries.

At least four people were injured during a clash between the supporters of Qaumi Watan Party (QWP) and Pakistan People’s Party at Umarzai.

At least one man was killed and 14 injured in a clash erupted between two rival political groups in Shikarpur.

Meanwhile, a clash between two groups at a polling station in PS-34 constituency of Khairpur’s Kot Diji area left three people injured.

Violence also continued unabated in Balochistan as miscreants targeted at least 30 different polling stations in the province.

A three-day strike called by Baloch National Front and other separatists parties continued on the polling day.
