Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Leader and Former Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Governor Masud Kausar on Friday demanded the caretaker government, Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) and the Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) to act against the Sharif Brothers for using the CJP’s pictures and name in their election campaign to fool the public and win their favor.
Addressing a news conference at the PPP Secretariat, Kausar complained that his party was not allowed to conduct its campaign freely. He accused the caretaker setup and the ECP for failing to host free and fair polls, adding that gross violations have been committed, especially by Right-wing parties, which the ECP has ignored.
Kausar told that his party had lodged a complaint with the ECP requesting it to ban the Sharif brothers from the polls.
“PML-N leaders portrayed that the CJP is supporting them. The ECP and the CJP should take notice of this ECP code violation,” he declared.
While responding to a question, Kausar said that non state actors were attempting to keep progressive parties away from the polls, and that is why the PPP, the Awami National Party (AWP) and the Mutahidda Qaumi Movement (MQM)were being targeted.
He added that Ali Haider Gilani’s kidnapping testified to this fact, but the caretaker government had taken no serious measures in this regard. All they accomplished was issuing a statement saying: “we will cooperate in Ali Haider Gilani’s recovery.”
For Kausar, this reflects the non-seriousness of the caretaker government in conducting free, fair and transparent elections.
On the other hand, the Right-wing parties faced no threats during their campaign, he maintained.
