PML-N and PTI candidates face criminal charges

One day before the general elections, criminal cases have been registered against Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) candidate for NA-56 and Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) candidate for PP-14 Chaudhry Mohammad Asghar advocate.

According to details, the PML-N candidate for NA-56 Mohammad Hanif Abbasi along with 700 supporters had already been booked by the Waris Khan police for damaging police bus and obstructing the cops form discharging their official duty. On Thursday, Abbasi along with his personal secretary Sheikh Anwar and 300 supporters were again booked by the Sadiqabad police for blocking a road and shouting violent slogans against their rival candidate, police said.

Police sources said that the political leaders and their supporters would be arrested soon after the election results were announced, provided they did not get their pre-arrest bails from the court of law.

Similarly, Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf’s candidate from provincial assembly’s seat PP-14 Chaudhry Mohammad Asghar along with PTI vice president Amir Mehmood Kiani, Adeel Butt, Khaliq Dad, Mohammad Farooq, Aitzaz Jaffari, Dost Mohammad and 300 supporters had blocked a road in their area by parking cars in the middle.

Police said the political activists were also shouting derogatory slogans against their rival candidates. However, after efforts by the police the PTI leaders and their supporters were dispersed.

When contacted, the deputy superintendent of police New Town Circle, Sardar Shahbaz Hussain admitted that an FIR had been registered against PTI leaders and their supporters for blocking a road and holding an illegal assembly. However, no arrests have been made, he added.

Police said two separate reports along with the copies of FIRs registered against the contesting candidates of two main political parties were sent to the authorities concerned as such activities could threaten the law and order situation and were a violation of codes of conduct for elections.
