Information and Broadcasting Minister Arif Nizami said on Friday that apprehensions about delay in elections no longer hold ground.

Speaking on the Post Election Complaint Cell’s inauguration at the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) headquarters he said that due to NADRA biometrics casting bogus votes is no longer possible and arrangements to prevent anyone from doing so have been made.

Nizami said that the SMS service to get polling station location and vote number information had received a great response from the public.

He added that exercising this democratic right guarantees the country’s survival. He urged the people of Pakistan to vote be heard on May 11.

He said that the caretaker government took all steps to hold free, fair and transparent elections.

NADRA Chairman Tariq Malik said that fingerprints will be matched at the complaint cell to assist the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) and the Election Tribunals.

He said that this will allow the Election Tribunals to make informed decisions efficiently.

He added that 117 million voters have checked their vote registration information through the SMS service so far.

Malik affirmed that these complaint cells had been established to assist the ECP and the Election Tribunals.
