No more advertisement, rallies and corner meetings to woo voters as the campaigning period of 22 days, that left 111 people dead and over 350 injured, ended on Thursday night.
Meanwhile, under the security cover provided by the Pakistan Army, the Election Commission of Pakistan is dispatching ballot papers to polling stations across the country and this process will continue until Friday (today).
Through the green ballot papers, voters will elect their representatives for the National Assembly while white ballet paper will be used for electing provincial assemblies’ representatives.
A senior officer of the ECP, seeking anonymity said the dispatching of ballot papers to the constituencies and polling stations was underway and around 85 percent papers had already been sent to polling stations.
To a question, the officer said 69,729 polling stations had been set up across the country to facilitate the voters.
Talking about the end of election campaign, the officer said after the expiry of the deadline, which was midnight May 9, the candidates were bound to end all types of political activities including meetings, rallies and running advertisement in print and electronic media.
He said those found violating the provision would have to face legal action that could be disqualification and penalty.
Section 84 of the Representation of People Act 1976 bars all persons from convening, holding or attending any public meeting and promoting or joining any procession during the last 48-hours period.
The ECP said polling will be held from 8am to 5pm without any interval on May 11.
