Providing conducive and peaceful environment for the holding of general elections is the top priority of the Pakistan Army and other personnel at the moment, Chief of Army Staff General Ashfaq Pervez Kayani said on Wednesday.
Addressing a meeting of the core commanders at the military headquarters, the COAS asked all stakeholders to focus on ensuring timely elections. He said their aim should be to hold peaceful elections throughout the country and for this all the stakeholders should give priority to mutual coordination.
Later, apprising reporters about the meeting, ISPR DG Major Gen Asim Saleem Bajwa said 300,000 security forces personnel will be deputed in Punjab.
“Of the 300,000, 268,000 will be police and Rangers personnel and 32,000 will be army personnel,” he added.
The ISPR DG said army officials had also held meetings with stakeholders in Sindh and Balochistan. “No one should have any doubt about holding of the elections,” he added.
