`Heydar Aliyev Corners’ to be established in universities

The universities associated with Inter University Consortium for Promotion of Social Sciences (IUCPSS) will have “Heydar Aliyev Corners” named after Azerbaijan’s national leader according to the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) singed on Wednesday between the Azerbaijan Embassy and IUCPSS.

The corners will pay homage to visionary leadership in different member institutions of IUCPSS-an alliance of 12 Pakistani universities for promoting educational fellowships and cultural linkages between the universities of both countries.

The ceremony celebrated Heydar Aliyev’s 90th anniversary and was organized by IUCPSS and The Diplomatic Insight at the Higher Education Commission (HEC).

Chairperson HEC Dr. Javaid R. Laghari appreciated the initiative and assured HEC’s support in making the endeavour successful.

He said that Pakistan-Central Asia relations are based on geographical proximity, and common history, culture, traditions, religion, values and destiny. They can work together in the areas of research, information technology and scientific cooperation successfully, he said.

He also suggested that central Asian states can benefit from the developments of Pakistan’s higher education sector.

Azerbaijan Ambassador Dashgin Shikarov said that Muslim countries with shared historical, religious and political landscapes must cooperate with each other.

He also announced 36 scholarships for deserving students of the consortium.

He said that this MOU would help establish Heyder Aliyev Corners in consortium member universities to link the universities of both countries.

In his welcome remarks, Founding Chairperson IUCPSS and Vice Chancellor Islamia University Bahawalpur Prof. Dr Muhammad Mukhtar said by HEC’s help the IUCPSS

is connecting to national and international organizations for improving social science, arts, humanities and research activities in Pakistan.

College University Faisalabad, Dr. Haroon Rashid Pro-Rector COMSATS Institute of Information Technology Islamabad, Prof. Dr. Muhammad Mohsin Khan Director IMS Peshawar and Muhammad Asif, The Diplomatic Insight Chief Editor also spoke on the occasion.
