CMs brief PM on law and order, poll arrangements

Prime Minister Mir Hazar Khan Khoso on Wednesday discussed the arrangements made for the general elections scheduled to be held on May 11 with the chief ministers of Sindh, Punjab, Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

During his separate telephonic conversations with the chief ministers, the prime minister also discussed the maintenance of law and order situation in the country.

While talking to Chief Minister Punjab Najam Sethi, the prime minister enquired about the progress in the health of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf Chairman Imran Khan.

The prime minister expressed satisfaction over the report of his recovery.

The prime minister assured the Punjab chief minister that the federal government was ready to provide all necessary assistance to the provincial governments to conduct free, fair and transparent elections in the country.

He also discussed increasing the coordination among different departments at federal and provincial level for conducting the elections smoothly.

Punjab Chief Minister Najam Sethi briefed the prime minister on the arrangements made by the provincial government, particularly those made for the election day.

Prime Minister Mir Hazar Khan Khoso also rang up Sindh Chief Minister Zahid Qurban Alvi.

The chief minister apprised the prime minister about the measures being taken by the provincial government for maintaining a cordial and peaceful environment in the province.

The prime minister observed that the law and order situation had shown a sign of improvement after effective measures were taken by the federal government in coordination with provincial authorities. He expressed confidence that the situation would further improve in the coming days.

The prime minister assured the Sindh Chief Minister that the federal government would provide all possible assistance to the provincial government in this regard.

The prime minister also stressed that extra security measures must be taken to safeguard the life and property of the people in general, and the candidates in particular, on elections day.

During his separate telephonic conversation with Balochistan Chief Minister Nawab Ghaus Bakhsh Barozai, the prime minister expressed satisfaction over the fact that all political parties are taking part in the elections, including nationalist political parties. He said that it is a good omen for national politics.

The prime minister directed the Balochistan Chief Minister to beef up the security of the candidates during the election campaign and on the election day. He assured the provincial government all possible assistance by the federal government.

The overall security situation of the province and the arrangements made for the general elections also came under discussion.

Prime Minister Khoso also telephoned Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Tariq Pervez Khan and expressed concern over the terrorist attacks targeting candidates of different parties in KPK.

He expressed confidence that the provincial government would take extra security measures on elections day.

The prime minister said that all federal government security agencies have been instructed to increase coordination with provincial governments in order to coordinate and manage the arrangements made for the elections.

The prime minister lauded political parties for taking part in the elections despite challenges from anti-state and anti-social elements.

The chief minister informed the prime minister that various measures had been taken by the provincial government for the maintenance of law and order, security of candidates for holding free, fair and transparent elections in the province.
