Lashkar-i-Jhangvi’s Karachi chief arrested: SIU

The Special Investigation Unit (SIU) on Tuesday arrested Lashkar-i-Jhangvi (LJ) Karachi chapter chief Tariq Shafi alias Doctor from Hub, located 25 kilometres from the provincial capital, SSP SIU Farooq Awan said.
Speaking about the nabbed suspected militant, SSP Awan said that Shafi was a known terrorist and was wanted in 14 cases pertaining to sectarian killings, in which eight people were killed.
Shafi was also a suspect in the murder of college head Professor Sibte Jafar and was listed as absconding in the case, SSP Awan informed.
Shafi was a former head constable in police telecommunication wing in 2001 and was later dismissed from duty and arrested on charges of involvement in sectarian attacks. He was later released in 2008.
The information on Shafi was extracted from a former LJ Karachi chief Hafiz Qasim Rasheed who was arrested in 2012.
