PPP shall return to power, says Gilani

Former prime minister Yousaf Raza Gilani has said that the PPP is currently facing one of the worst challenges in its political history as the party is being pushed to the wall by anti-democratic forces. Terming the terrorist activities against the party as unfair and unwarranted, he said that the next government would also be formed by the PPP as it is close to the hearts of the people who would never let it fall.

Talking to Pakistan Today, Gilani said that his party has served both the people and the country with utmost dedication and sincerity. “The PPP manifesto is in the blood of common Pakistanis and the party shall prevail in the general elections.”

Gilani said, though his party has not been allowed to launch its electioneering campaign freely and has been wobbling under the weight of various terrorist attacks, but it is not de-motivated by such happenings. “The PPP hierarchy and workers would courageously face every crisis as its leaders had done in the past,” said he, adding, ”the party had always nurtured men who responded well in crisis situations and the party’s political struggle shall continue on the same lines.”

Reiterating his stance, Gilani recalled that the PPP is the sole political party of the country and its history is laced together by narrative of sacrifices of the country and its constitution and democracy.

Further, he said the PPP’s committed, loyal and brave workers and voters have always cast their ballot in favour of party candidates and have thus made the PPP successful despite being faced with hurdles and obstacles from various quarters.

Replying to a query, Gilani declared that the PPP was the victim of potent discrimination directed towards it by certain forces who have always indulged in hatching conspiracies against the party, but so far they have failed in their nefarious designs. “Such forces have always been defeated after their power was neutralised by the people,” he added.

Moreover, he said that the PPP voters were well-aware of the party’s present position and are thus resolved to fully support it. Brimming with confidence, he claimed May 11 shall prove his words right when the PPP would achieve a sweeping victory.

Talking about the prevailing security situation, Gilani said, the PPP has been compelled to limit its corner meetings in places where the party had traditionally held the biggest public meetings in the past. He said that in reality the party did not want to lose its remaining party leadership as it has already lost one too many in the recent past. “Despite these hardships, the PPP has still managed to play its political role.”

Gilani said: the PPP in its recent stint in power had taken unprecedented steps to uplift the economic condition of the poor. “No one can deny that we brought a major change in their lives and for that reason we are sure to win the forthcoming electoral battle with the help of poor Pakistanis. May 11 shall add another feather to the PPP’s cap when it is returned to power.”
