Poor public transport troubles women commuters

Women commuters from Rawalpindi and Islamabad face insufficient public transport facilities.

“Few wagons and buses operate between Islamabad and Rawalpindi, which is worsened by the problems of the public transport system,” said Saira, a working woman at Sadiqabad wagon stop.

There is scarce seating for women, remarked Khadija, a government employee. “We wait for hours on wagon terminals and when any wagon comes, only one lucky working lady can find a seat amidst tremendous jostling”, she said

They demanded that women’s seating in public transport be increased.
