Hashmi lashes out at Nawaz for interview given to Indian TV channel

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) President Javed Hashmi on Monday expressed shock at the “irresponsible” interview given by Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Nawaz Sharif to Indian anchor Karan Thapar.

Hashmi said that discussing sensitive internal military matters on an Indian television channel showed how “totally ignorant” Nawaz Sharif was about statecraft and rules of governance.

“Clearly he has gained nothing from his repeated experience in power,” he said.

“What business is it of an Indian channel to know about the internal promotion issue of a chief of army staff? Do the Indians ever give access to such information to any other country especially Pakistan?” Hashmi asked.

He said that what was even more shocking was Nawaz’s discourse on Kargil and his plan to punish all the generals involved.

“No one is denying that investigations should be done on these issues but these are Pakistan’s internal matters not to be broadcast across an Indian TV Channel,” Hashmi said.

Furthermore, Hashim said that Nawaz had implied that he would share the findings of such a report on the Kargil debacle with India. This, Hashmi said, was truly a “grave violation” of the principle of keeping external powers out of Pakistan’s internal.
