Punjab Chief Minister Najam Sethi said on Sunday that the provincial government had put in place solid measures to ensure conduct of general elections in a free, fair, transparent and peaceful manner.
Talking to a six-member delegation of newsmen from different countries who met him at the CM’s Secretariat, he said the most modern election information system had been evolved in Punjab through which electoral process including implementation of the code of conduct was being monitored, while Punjab Election Information Center (EIC) has been established at the Civil Secretariat.
Sethi said that in view of national and international scenario, security arrangements have been further tightened across the province to ensure peaceful conduct of elections as well as enable the voters to exercise their right of franchise without any fear.
He observed that due to vibrant role of media, the world has assumed the form of a global village and an incident taking place in any part of the world is immediately known to the people across the world. The role of media has assumed greater significance in the background of elections in the country.
The delegation appreciated the arrangements made by Punjab government for holding of transparent elections and the modern information system developed for monitoring this process.
The delegation included the head of German Press Federation Dr Christan Zarm, Vienna Newspaper correspondent Shams-ul-Haq, N-TV foreign correspondent Nadeja Krewald, freelance journalist Robin Ruehling, Suddeutsche Zeitung correspondent Arne Perras and head of International Political Desk of an Australian newspaper Kleinezeitung Ingo Hasewend.
CM TAKES NOTICE OF VIOLENCE AGAINST PTI WORKERS: Punjab Chief Minister Najam Sethi on Sunday took a notice of violence against workers of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) in Toba Tek Singh and sought a report from Punjab Inspector General of Police (IGP). The chief minister also directed to take immediate action against the persons involved in the incident.
