Anti-measles drive extended till May 7


As many as 250,000 children from six months to ten years of age were vaccinated against measles in a special seven-day campaign launched by the Punjab government on April 29 which has now been extended to May 7.

EPI Additional Director Dr Nazir Hussain said that during the special anti-measles campaign, the Punjab Health Department had set a target of at least three million children. He said the drive had been extended to vaccinate the remaining school children who could not be vaccinated owing to three holidays in the previous week.

To a question, he said that the drive had received good response from parents and the general public. He said that vaccination was being carried out by 900 staffers at fixed points to vaccinate children.

The facility is also being provided at all government hospitals of Lahore. Around 5,000 health workers were involved in the special drive, he added.

Meanwhile, EDO Health Dr Zulfiqar Ali pointed out that 600 mobile, 165 schools and 265 fixed teams had been assigned the task of vaccination which had also been trained.
