SSUET Vice Chancellor orders inquiry into lift incident

A third semester student of Sir Syed University of Engineering and Technology Electronics Department was injured when he fell into the duct of lift of the university’s Block-F.
An immediate inquiry ordered into the incident by Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Jawaid H, Rizvi revealed that the lift, which was carrying four students, got stuck at the second floor of the building.
The lift incharge Nisar Ahmed tried to open the door and while the door was only half open, the student identified as Uzair Ahmed attempted to escape in panic and fell down the duct.
In a desperate attempt to save the student, the lift man also jumped out and suffered minor injuries as a result of the fall. Fortunatley, three other students remained safe.
After the incident, Uzair was immediately rushed to Liaquat National Hospital where his condition was stated to be stable.
The university registrar Shah Mahmood Hussain visited the student at the hospital and assured his wards that the university would bear the entire cost of his treatment.
