Representatives of different NGOs have demanded implementation of all clauses of the constitution, which guarantee the protection of the minorities in the country in order to remove the sense of deprivation prevailing among them, particularly among scheduled caste Hindus.
Addressing a news conference here at Hyderabad Press Club on Saturday, Veeru Kolhi of Green Rural Development Organisation and candidate on PS-50 Hyderabad, Zaulfiqar Helipoto of Pakistan Peace Coalition, Pakistan Institute of Labour Education and Research Co-Manager Shujauddin Qureshi, Dr Ashok Thamma of Human Rights Commission of Pakistan, Zahida Detho of Sindh Rural Partners Organisation and Naghma Iqtidar of Network for Women Rights have regretted that no political party, in their electioneering campaigns, have raised the issue of the injustices being meted out towards minorities of the country.
They said that women from the minorities have also been deprived of their rights while the minorities were also not getting jobs in accordance with the quota set for them, adding that the trend of extortion, threats and torture was also picking up in areas housing minorities.
They demanded the protection of minority rights as guaranteed by the constitution, increase minorities seats in the parliament after conducting consensus, representation of minorities judges and lawyers in the judiciary, elimination of discrimination against minorities, ban on speeches and printing material which harm the feelings of minorities, implementation of effective and participatory local government system with due representation of minorities and curbing the trend of forced conversions.
They also demanded that all political parties should incorporate in their manifestos protection of minority rights as priority priority.
