According to a Gilani Research Foundation Survey carried out by Gallup Pakistan, at least 25 percent Pakistanis believe there is a ‘very high threat’ of riots and breakdown of law and order in their constituency on May 11.
According to details, a nationally representative sample of men and women from the four provinces was asked, “In your opinion, in your constituency where you vote, is there a threat of riots on election day?”
Responding to the question, 25 percent of the respondents said very high threat existed, 32 percent were somewhat threatened and 42 percent said there no threat at all. However, 1 percent did not give a response.
A comparison between localities showed that urban respondents believed there was a very high threat (30 percent) compared to rural respondents (22 percent).
A comparison between provinces showed that respondents in Balochistan were most worried about riots on election day (at least 53 percent), followed by Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (34 percent), Sindh (27 percent) and Punjab (20 percent).
The survey was carried out among a sample of 2641 men and women in rural and urban areas of all four provinces of the country, between April 15 and April 21.
