Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) chief Nawaz Sharif, who arrived in Sindh on Thursday on one-day tour, enjoyed extraordinary security by the police of two provinces, Punjab and Sindh, despite clear directives of the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) to provide level security to the former prime minister.
The commandos of Punjab and Sindh police were engaged in security arrangements for the PML-N chief outside the Jets Lounge of Jinnah International Airport (JIA), Karachi. Having walkie-talkie in their hands, the Punjab police commandos took control of the area and encircled Nawaz Sharif onboard a vehicle.
The Punjab police commandos took the major responsibility of PML-N chief’s security. Perhaps, Sharif has little or no trust in the Sindh police as he has been criticising the ability of provincial police department to counter targeted killings in the city.
Earlier, the ECP had taken notice of complaints by various political parties and directed the authorities concerned to withdraw extraordinary security to the Sharif Brothers and provide them level security.
Violating the ECP directives, a Punjab police commando troop arrived in the city notwithstanding the Sindh police had made sufficient arrangements for providing security to the former prime minister. The commandos from Punjab arrived on Wednesday and would leave the province after Nawaz Sharif’s address in Thatta.
“We arrived in Karachi on Wednesday for security to the PML-N chief,” a Punjab police commando, Shahadat, told Pakistan Today. “We have been assigned to provide security to the ex-prime minister on his tour to Sindh and we will leave the province after his address in Thatta,” he added.
“The Sindh police had arranged security for Nawaz Sharif when the department received the information of his visit to Sindh,” Deputy Inspector General (DIG) East Captain Tahir Naveed told Pakistan Today.
“Superintendent of police and station house officers of the concerned police stations were deputed at the airport for providing security to the PML-N chief,” he said.
“It is mandate of the ECP to question that why the PML-N chief carried double security during his visit to Sindh” DIG East added. “If any VIP or political leader arrives in any part of the country, it is responsibility of the area police concerned to provide him sufficient security,” Naveed added.
Mr. Sharif is so much concerned about his own security within the nation he wishes to rule. What about the People? They have no safety and security as long as you were the prime minister. Should this security staff be used for securing the leaders or should it be deployed for providing the security to the nation?
How can you claim to be the leader of the people whom you are scared with?
In civilised societies such politicians are dead and burried politically.
