‘Critically injured’ Indian spy Sarabjit passes away

Sarabjit Singh, an Indian spy convicted of carrying out multiple bombings in Pakistan, passed away at Jinnah Hospital late on Wednesday night.

Sarabjit was critically injured in a brawl with two fellow inmates at Kot Lakhpat Jail a couple of days ago. He was imprisoned in Pakistan since 1990. The spy breathed his last just as his family returned to India via the Wagah Border earlier in the day after doctors told them that Sarabjit was “brain dead”.

A visibly distraught Sarabjit’s sister Dalbir Kaur told reporters at Wagah border that she was returning to India to take care of Sarabjit’s children. She demanded that Pakistan should hold an enquiry as to how Sarabjit’s security was compromised and he was subsequently attacked with bricks and iron rods.

“If the attack was planned by the government itself then there is no need for an enquiry. But if Sarabjit was attacked without the knowledge of the authorities then an enquiry is definitely needed.”

In a meeting with the Pakistan’s Foreign Secretary on Wednesday, the Indian High Commissioner had requested that Sarabjit Singh be immediately released on “humanitarian and sympathetic” grounds.

India also proposed that Pakistan could also send Sarabjit to a third country for medical treatment.

“We are concerned at the condition of Sarabjit Singh indicated by reports made available by doctors treating him in Jinnah Hospital,” a statement issued by the Indian External Affairs Ministry had said.

  4. No i dont think so because there is no peace process going on between india and pakistan and secondly he was a terrorist who has killed 14 innocent Pakistani in the bomb blasts in various cities of Pakistan. The Nature has done what the Govt of Pakistan was reluctant to do.

      He did not kill anyone. His conviction by a Kangaroo court if failed terrorist Islamic republic was based on confession extracted from him in police custody.
      Do you have any evidence ??? Do you have any audio-video footage showing him placing bomb ? Where he got the bomb from within Pakistan ??? He is in jail for past so many years who is doing blasts now ?

  19. He was on death row and it was responsibility of state to hang him. However, being a Muslim, we should condemn his killing by some one else.

  21. Carrying out a single bomb-attack takes lot of work involving other people and help.Sarabjit Singh is accused of carrying out many with no involvement of other persons. And he is supposed to have been in pakistan for over a month,carrying out bomb-attacks over different places, and at different times. So where did he stay,eat and made those bombs?Where is the investigation showing the plot, accomplices and network? He died the day he mistakenly crossed over the line.

    • Charanjit, Pakistan is not a country…It is a violent tribe which is uncivilized also and it is ruled by a rogue army.
      He never did any blasts.. he was implicated by Pakistani police to satisfy their blood thirst. There is no proof at all. Last 10 years have proved that All Pakistanis are terrorists… it is a way of life. No outsiders can do so many blasts on daily basis.
      Their own army has given permission to USA to use drones to kill their own citizens !!!! They took money to let Raymond off…they can even sell their m thers for money…

    • Your last sentence is true,but not only for this guy but every person,man woman or child,as soon as they cross the line or pass by a marked stone,might as well forget about them.and I'm not just talking about Pakistan,same happens in India too.Ever hear of children,as young as 8 and 10 years of age thrown in jail by Indian authorities simply because they crossed a line by mistake.Its a shame I tell you for both sides,there is entirely too much love between the rivals

  22. Re Charanjit Mann's comment: Sarabjit was tried in court. He was given an opportunity to defend himself, and could have raised the objections cited by Mr Mann. The court convicted him. His sentence was upheld by the appellate court. Under the circumstance, Charanjit Mann's objections are neither here nor there. No merit in these points, I am afraid.

    Mr Mann should also look into the mis-treatment of Pakistani prisoners in Indian custody.

    • If you know so much about the case also please tell us what was basis of his conviction ??? Only confessional statement. There is no other evidence whatsoever. He never got a fair trial. Who is doing blasts now ?
      Nevertheless, how can anyone feel authorized to attack him brutally and him lying for 2 hours in pool of blood… under close supervision of police ?

        • Bhutto was guilty as charged. He let loose political violence against his opponents. Kwaja Rafiq, a prominent opposition politician, was murdered. Nazeer Ahmad, a member of the National Assembly, was murdered. Bhutto's party personnel opened fire on a meeting being conducted by Abdul-WLi Khan in Rawalpindi.However, Ziaul-Haq did not allow Bhutto's heirs to pay blood money to the heirs of the deceased as provided by Islamic law; otherwise the heirs would probably have accepted blood money. In this way one could say that Bhutto's execution was political.

      • You have mixed two issues. The attack on Sarabjit is not the subject of my comment.

        A confession is a valid ground for conviction. The point is that Sarabjit was free to defend himself and raise all the points in his defence. The court cannot be blamed for his confession. You seem to think that all Pakistanis including Pakistani courts are bad. I cannot disabuse you of your prejudice.

        The condition of Pakistani prisoners repatriated by India is such as to leave no doubt as to how they had been treated in India.

        Som years ago, a Pakistani went to India on a visa granted by India. He was arrested for alleged espionage by Indian authorities and murdered. India refused to return his body as it would have shown marks of torture in India custody.

  51. Hatred doesn’t take one anywhere. Before hurting others one hurts himself. Religion is a learnt thing. A religion of force is unnecessary. Nobody is better than the other. Pakistan was created from India. India has more Muslims than Pakistan. Fall in love and embrace humanity. There is no room for hatred then. Youth should focus on globalization and peace. Sarabjit and kasab themselves knew what their story was. Stop guessing and move on.
