After rebellion of Makhdoom Javed Hashmi, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Karachi President Nehal Hashmi is likely to emerge as another rebel due to the indifferent attitude of party leadership towards him, Pakistan Today learnt on Thursday.
Nehal, who got a ticket to contest elections from NA-251, is facing problems from party leadership and PML-N candidate on provincial assembly seat PS-114 Irfanullah Marwat.
Marwat, who has joined PML-N recently, has started campaigning for Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) candidate Zahid Saeed in NA-251. Marwat has started campaigning for the JI to get support in winning his provincial assembly seat.
NA-251 constituency has two provincial assembly seats – PS-114 and PS-115 and the PML-N, the JI, the ANP, the PPP, the PTI and the JUI-F have fielded their candidates.
The areas which fall under NA-251 jurisdiction are Mehmoodabad, PECHS, Azam Basti, Ashraf Colony, Junejo Town, Akhtar Colony, KAECHS and Jacob Lines. The banners and posters of Marwat carried the picture of Nawaz Sharif instead of Nehal. The banners also carried the picture of JI candidate Zahid Saeed who is contesting elections against Nehal. The banners read that Saeed was a joint candidate of the PML-N and the JI.
Moreover, Nehal’s name was not included in the list of those who received Nawaz Sharif at Karachi Airport. When Nehal tried to go inside the lounge to receive Nawaz the Airports Security Force (ASF) personnel stopped him. After which Nehal staged a protest demonstration. Hashmi continued his protest for 10 minutes.
Later, he had a scuffle with ASF officials after he tried to enter the lounge forcibly and party workers took him away from the lounge. The ASF personnel said they had received a list of people who would receive Nawaz and Nehal’s name was not included. At last, he was called inside the lounge after he became focus of the media.
“The party has created such circumstances for me that I cannot run election campaign effectivley,” Nehal told Pakistan Today. “Mian sahab [Nawaz Sharif] directed me to contest elections from NA-251 at any cost and I am following instructions of my party chief, but our own party leader has started supporting my opponent in the constituency,” Hashmi added.
“Marwat received shut-up calls from party central leadership and PML-N chief Nawaz Sharif but he is continuously creating hurdles for me along with cooperation of other party leaders in Sindh,” Hashmi claimed.
“I do not want collision as it is the easiest way to follow on and if I am forced to adopt the way of collision then it would affect the party structure in Sindh,” Hashmi warned.
