WAF asks political parties to startegise election meetings

Joint Action Committee of Civil Society Organisations and Women Action Forum (WAF) have urged all political parties to adopt thorough strategies in arranging their election meetings and stressed that they must be supported in their arrangements by police and rangers.
“Army must extend security where it is required,” said WAF spokesperson, Moniza Inam.
On behalf of the country’s civil society, she also expressed their solidarity with all political parties contesting the forthcoming national polls and condemned attacks on their members and workers.
“We condemn these attacks in no uncertain terms and extend condolence to those who have lost their loved ones in these attacks,” she said.
Moniza Inam said that ban on the display of arms must be strictly implemented and any one found violating the ban must be placed on remand for a month.
Acknowledging the difficult situation that the interim government and the Election Commission were confronted with, the activists expressed their confidence that both the institutions would meet the expectations of all committed to democratic requirements and processes.
Senior activists Zubeida Mustafa, Hilda Saeed, Dr Samrina Hashmi, Uzma Noorani, Sheema Kirmani, Syed Shams, Mehnaz Rehman, Rubina Brohi, Farida Tahir and Farhat Parveen were also present on the occasion.
“WAF expects the civil society organisations in the Punjab province and Islamabad to strongly condemn the violence in other provinces,” they said.
