A cargo plane crashed in Afghanistan on Monday killing seven crew members on board. All seven were US citizens, the cargo carrier National Airlines said.

The crash happened shortly after takeoff from Bagram Air Base in Afghanistan, the US-based company said. The Boeing 747-400 was en route to Dubai, United Arab Emirates.

“This was a purely cargo flight and no passengers were aboard,” a company statement said. “Cargo consisted of vehicles and routine general cargo.”

National Airlines specializes in moving freight for the military and businesses, as well as charter passenger service in the Middle East.

The cause of the crash has not been determined.

“This is a devastating loss for our company and we’ll work diligently with authorities to find the cause,” National Airlines President Glen Joerger said in the statement.

“Our focus at this time is on the family members of those we’ve lost, and on assisting the NTSB (National Transportation Safety Board) and Afghanistan Civil Aviation Authority in their investigations.”

  1. Most of the viewers, including me, state that the flight crashed due to a Cargo shift, not secured in the cargo section, and that the Plane stalled due to the shift. That is what the aircraft was acting on, a Stall, and pulling almost straight up due to the Cargo shifting to the back of the Boeing 747-400

  2. I concur with Khalid; massive cargo shift to the rear on take-off causing a unrecoverable stall.

    Horrible, horrible.

  3. if you watch the video… you will see the odd angle in which the plane took off. additionally, you will clearly note absolutely no reaction by the individual that just so happen to have a camera running at the time of the crash.

  4. I agree with the dash cam guy was more worried to get some where than what just happened, whats wrong with people these days
