No future for CNG in Pakistan: petroleum minister

Interim Minister for Petroleum and Natural Resources Sohail Wajahat Siddiqui has said compressed natural gas (CNG) holds no future in Pakistan.

Talking to PTV on Tuesday, he said sufficient energy would be available for the consumers soon and a long-term policy to address the energy issue would also be given.

He said 17,000mmc of gas was available for consumers at the moment.

“The caretaker government is giving priority to domestic users. A roadmap will be provided to the next government to resolve the energy crisis.”

To a question, the minister said the issue of gas shortage would be addressed within a period of three years.

He said, “We will work under limited available resources for the betterment of the country.”

Siddiqui said there was a need to make short- and long-term strategies to overcome the energy crisis in the country.

He urged the people to cooperate with the government to utilise energy according to their needs.
