Minister for Information and Broadcasting Arif Nizami said that the caretaker government would take all possible steps to compensate the Independent News Pakistan (INP) for the equipment destroyed in the fire on Sunday morning.
The INP office, situated in Sector F-6, Markaz Super Market caught fire at around 4:30am on Sunday morning. Everything was reduced to ashes but cause has not been ascertained yet of the fire.
Visiting the burnt INP office on Tuesday, Nizami said a thorough and independent inquiry would be carried out into the burning of the INP office. He also said INP would be compensated for the loss of the equipment.
The minister also visited the camp of INP employees who were protesting against the burning of their office and expressed dismay at the unfortunate incident. He thanked Allah that no loss of life took place in the incident. He said all his support and sympathies were with the workers who were carrying out their duties with professional determination in a difficult time.
He said that INP was working as a viable and effective news agency and continued its news operation in this difficult situation.
Meanwhile, Kohsar Police registered an FIR under section 436 PPC against the unidentified accused.
President of National Press Club Farooq Faisal, former PFJU President Hajji Nawaz Raza, senior journalist Saud Sehr, All Pakistan News Agencies Council Secretary General Shakil Turabi, Bilal Dar, Khawaj Nawaz Raja and a large number of other journalists were present to express solidarity with their INP colleagues.
