In a joint decision by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) and the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) it has been agreed that the scrutiny of candidates would continue after they are sworn in for national and provincial assembly seats.
Whilst talking to a daily English newspaper, NAB Spokesman, Ramzan Sajid stated that “Scrutiny of 728 members of national and provincial assemblies will continue even after the May 11 polls,”
NAB chairman Fasih Bokhari earlier suggested that the scrutiny of candidates should be done after the elections as it was simply not possible to finish it before April 7.
The ECP was told that if any action was taken against a candidate, it may lead to complaints that hindrances were being created in his political party’s participation in the polls.
The ECP has hence decided to let NAB continue the scrutiny after the polls.
