LHC to hear petition filed against disqualification of Musharraf

Lahore High Court (LHC) has agreed to hearing a petition asking the court to declare Pervez Musharraf eligible to contest the upcoming elections.

Justice Ejaz ul Ahsan took up the petition for hearing on Tuesday. The court was told on behalf of Pervez Musharraf that Election Tribunal had declared the former president disqualified to contest polls in NA 139 despite the fact that he had not been convicted in any case.

Pervez Musharraf also fulfills the requirements of articles 62 and 63 of the constitution therefore, he be declared eligible to take part in the polls, court was further requested.

The court while admitting the petition for regular hearing has issued notice to election commission to seek reply from it.

A full bench of LHC will hear the case on May, 2.
