Chinese corporates and SOEs (State Own Enterprises) are looking at prospects of making investment in infrastructure projects in Pakistan. “We have signed a pact with the China International Capital Corporation (CICC) under which different areas of economy have been identified for investments as well as taking part in privatisation and acquition of various public and private sectors entities” said Nasir Ali Shah Bukhari, Chairman KASB here in an interview with Agency on Monday.

Under the pact, KASB and CICC will jointly provide advisory, consultancy, underwriting and facilitation for Chinese investors in areas of energy, including hydel, wind and solar power, development of infrastructure, highways, sea ports, coal gasification, dams, development of oil and gas fields, mining and improvement in power transmission to help accelerate pace of economic development in Pakistan. The pact also covered complete financing in different projects in Pakistan by large Chinese institutions, said Nasir Bukhari.

Nasir Ali Shah Bukhari, on behalf of KASB (Khaldim Ali Shah Bukhari), signed the pact in presence of their partner Soulong Douji, from CICC by Lin Shourang, while heads of various wings were also present. KASB also plans to hold road shows in China in collaboration with CICC to reach out to Chinese private and public entities, he said. That would open up various investment avenues and financing in mega infrastructure projects in the country, he noted.

The objective of the pact was to facilitate and establish synergy between corporates and government entities of both the countries to take full advantage of the liberalised economic policies being offered by Pakistan and also to arrange capital from China, he said, adding “it would have direct impact on faster growth of our country’s economy.” Zhaohui, Managing Director and head of investment banking at CICC, said on the occasion of signing ceremony that CICC and KASB had few years back jointly advised China mobile for acquisition of Paktel now Zong.

“Zong has completed five years of its successful operation in Pakistan. We are now formalising this relationship,” said Zhaohui, adding that CICC was committed to participate in the economic development of Pakistan and to bring best investment opportunities for Chinese clients.
