Police resolute determined to ensure safe elections

To counter criminal and terrorist activities, a general hold-up has been started across Punjab on the instructions of Inspector General of Police (IGP) Aftab Sultan which will continue till general elections.

In this regard the first and very successful general hold-up was held on Saturday night which continued for four hours in all regions, districts and divisions.

During the hold-up, police arrested 444 POs and 104 absconders. As many as 163 cases were registered against violators and 10 kgs of charas and 2,270 gms of heroin were seized.

Under Arms Ordinance 220 cases were registered against various persons and 213 illegal weapons were recovered.

About 2,332 motorcycles were checked by the police and 1,095 motorcycles without number plates were impounded. As many as 3,883 vehicles were checked and 19 suspected and without number plates vehicles were impounded.

 

361 ARRESTED IN SEARCH OPERATION: The Lahore police arrested 361 accused and registered 134 cases against them during a search operation against proclaimed offenders, drug peddlers, and gamblers in the last five days.

Police raided 458 hideouts of criminals and arrested 282 drug pushers and 79 gamblers and seized 16 kgs of hashish, 577 litres of liquor and some stake money.

During the search operation, the police also checked 3,155 suspicious persons and 13,654 students of 211 seminaries. Lahore DIG Operations Jawad Ahmad Dogar said police would utilise all available resources to ensure law and order during election. He directed SPs to make special police teams in their divisions. The search operation would be launched daily against anti-state elements for a peaceful election, he added.
