12 killed in Iraq car bombs

At least 12 people have been killed On Monday after four car bombs exploded in public markets in the provinces of Missan, Diywaniya, and Karbala in Iraq, medics and police sources have said.

Police said two bombs exploded in the town of Amara in Missan – one near a police station and one near a market. Eight were killed and 40 wounded.

In Diwaniya, an attack in the city centre left two people dead and 27 others wounded.

In Karbala, police told reporters that two people were killed, and another four wounded when a car bomb exploded in the eastern part of the city.

Monday’s explosions are the latest in a string of attacks across the country.

Tensions spiked earlier this week when fighting broke out in the northern town of Hawija during a security crackdown on a protest encampment.
