Rent-a-car business on the rise

With the general elections approaching, a boom has been witnessed in the rent-a-car business.

“The candidates and their supporters are booking vehicles for the election campaigns,” car-rental businessmen told APP on Sunday.

Almost all the owners of rent-a-car businesses have introduced attractive packages for those interested and are providing various luxury vehicles.

The owners are advertising through banners and cable channels to attract customers.

A reservation officer at a rent-a-car showroom, while talking to APP, said that the rent for luxury vehicles, including 4×4, ranges from Rs 200,000 to Rs 700,000 for 40 days. The charges for sedans for the same period are from Rs 30,000 to Rs 100,000.

“The aggressive leasing by banks helped the rent-a-car business boom in the past, but the business was experiencing a downfall since the last couple of months. The elections are surely helping the businessmen earn handsome amount of money,” she said.

Aqib Shah, who is running a rent-a-car showroom at Aabpara said that he had asked his relatives to rent out their vehicles through him and earn good money. He said whether the candidates win or lose, the businessmen would be happy in both the cases.

Showroom owners have arranged a large number of vehicles, including their personal vehicles and those of their friends and relatives for the rent purposes. They term it a “golden opportunity to earn extra money, which should not be wasted”.

Muhammad Imran Kasim, who rents out cars in the Blue Area said he had arranged around 50 vehicles, which he got from his relatives and friends.

“I have rented out 45 vehicles and the remaining cars have also been booked,” he said, adding that he was still looking to get more cars.

A representative of a car rental company, Faisal Ishaq, said his group had arranged around 350 vehicles for the elections. “Almost all the vehicles have been booked by the candidates,” he said.
