Rawalpindi Mall to remain closed to traffic tomorrow

All citizens have been urged to use alternate routes instead of Rawalpindi Mall Road as the road from Shalimar Chowk to T and T Chowk will remain closed for all vehicular traffic on April 30 on the occasion of Youm-e-Shuhada.

The day will be observed to recognise the services of those soldiers who had laid their lives for the defence of their motherland.

Rawalpindi Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Syed Ishtiaq Hussain Shah said that several other roads of Rawalpindi cantonment area, including T and T Chowk to Chungi No 22 and Chungi No 22 to Tameez-ud-din Road will also remain closed to all vehicular traffic.

The CTO said that a traffic plan for “Youm-e-Shuhada” had been issued under which an enhanced number of traffic wardens would be deployed to regulate the traffic.

He said special instructions had been issued for checking of suspicious persons, tinted glass vehicles with improper number plates or without any number plates at all. “Strict action would be taken against the violators of the law,” he added.

“Ambulances, fire brigade vehicles and other vehicles with green number plates would also be checked properly,” he said.

The city police officer said motorists could use routes of Marrer Hassan, Marrer Chowk, Saddar, Bank Road, Haider Road, Mahfooz Road, MH Chowk and Peshawar Road. Adhara Road, Sher Khan Road, Abid Majeed Road, Qasim Market and Peshawar Road will also be open to traffic. Likewise, Lal Kurti Bazaar, Aziz Bhatti Road, Tufail Road could also be used by the motorists.

“Although a traffic plan has been formulated for the day, but the cooperation of the citizens is extremely necessary to avoid traffic jams in the city,” he said.

He said commuters should use alternate routes to reach their destinations.

He added that special arrangements had to be made to control traffic jams in Rawalpindi Cantonment area and an enhanced number of traffic wardens, under the supervision of inspectors, would also be deployed at all important points.
