Army to be deployed across Balochistan during polls

Balochistan government on Sunday decided to deploy army in all districts of Balochistan during the upcoming general elections.

In an interview, Balochistan Interior Secretary Akbar Hussain Durrani said that the army would be deployed in all 30 districts and 92 tehsils of the province to cope up with any untoward situation.

He said a total of 70 thousand security personnel would be deployed, including 6000 army men, 17000 FC soldiers, 20,000 policemen, 17,000 Levies personnel and 10,000 men of the Balochistan Constabulary.

He said the districts of Balochistan had been divided into three categories, keeping in view their magnitude of sensitivity.

He said that the army would secure the process of shipment of ballot papers to and from polling stations, and would provide security to the election staff.

He said that the election candidates had been allowed to keep private guards who would be paid by the provincial government.

Durrani said election duty was a national duty and those who had refused to perform this duty would be dealt with as per the law.
