780 postal ballot applications received for capital constituencies

As many as 780 postal ballot paper applications have been received for the two constituencies of Islamabad, NA-48 and NA-49.

According to the Election Commission of Pakistan, around 59,013 valid votes were cast through postal ballot papers in 2008 general elections and 54,062 in 2002.

Similarly 44,649 valid votes were cast through postal ballot papers in 1997, 61,845 in 1993, 63,635 in 1990, 62,641 in 1988 and 46,823 in the 1985 polls.

As many as 34,518 voters voted through postal ballots in 1977 and 40,009 in the 1970 elections.

Meanwhile, Pakistan Post has announced that it would deliver blank postal ballot papers to the voters and the stamped ones back to the returning officers free of charge.

  1. PEOPLE RESIDING IN PAKISTAN BUT HAVING VOTING AREA AWAY FROM THEIR RESIDENCE,, CAN THEY USE POSTAL BALLOT?

  2. Not everyone but people serving in security forces or living abroad can use the option.
