Traders and industrialists warned the government regarding the dilapidated condition of the city’s Jam Sadiq Bridge that has deteriorated further and may collapse at any time.
In an SOS to the federal and provincial governments, the trade and industrialist bodies have earnestly demanded of Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ebad to immediately take notice of the extremely vulnerable situation and to instruct the KMC to start repairs on the bridge without further delay.
Korangi Association of Trade and Industry (KATI) Chairman Mohammad Zubair Chhaya had cautioned the government that any disaster could occur due to the dilapidated condition of Jam Sadiq Bridge, which needed complete repairs. He said that the issue had been brought into the notice of government officials many times but nothing had been done in this regard so far. He also appealed to the caretaker ministers Mian Zahid Hussain, Khalid Tawab and Iqbal Pakwala to use their good offices and take up this matter with the government on priority basis.
He said that the government should take serious notice of the condition and should issue immediate orders for its repairs as PC-I of its repairs have already been prepared. He appealed to the federal government to release funds for the project so that the work on PC-I could be initiated by KMC.
He further endorsed the KMC administrator’s statement that the decaying state of the bridge had already been brought to the knowledge of the governor and chief minister. He mentioned that the Public Accounts Committee of the outgoing Sindh Assembly had also taken up this issue and called for its immediate repairs. He demanded complete revamping of the bridge, which he said was crumbling fast and could collapse at any given moment.
