The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) on Friday presented former president General (r) Pervez Musharraf in the anti-terrorism court (ATC) in Benazir Bhutto murder case where he was given physical remand till April 30.

Musharraf is already serving a two-week house arrest, set to expire on May 4, for sacking judges when he imposed emergency rule in November 2007 and will serve the fresh order concurrently.

Pervez Musharraf appeared in ATC in Rawalpindi for his remand hearing under tight security. He is accused of conspiracy to murder former prime minister Benazir Bhutto, who died in a gun and suicide attack in December 2007.

“We requested a three-day remand of retired general Pervez Musharraf and judge Chaudhry Habib-ur Rehman gave a three-day remand and adjourned the case until Monday,” prosecutor Chaudhry Azhar said.

The formal application seeking physical remand of Musharraf was submitted before the ATC on Thursday.

Sources said that the joint investigation team has completed the initial process.

The FIA had arrested Pervez Musharraf in Benazir Bhutto murder case on Thursday. The formal proceedings for the arrest were completed by the FIA Deputy Director at Musharraf’s farmhouse in Chak Shahzad which has been declared sub-jail.

The ATC had also allowed the FIA to include Pervez Musharraf in the investigation of Benazir Bhutto murder case. Prosecutor Chaudhry Zulfiqar represented FIA and presented his arguments while Afshan Adil Advocate represented Pervez Musharraf.

After listening to the arguments, the court had allowed FIA to formally arrest Musharraf and include him in the investigation.

During the interrogation, the former president was asked why Benazir Bhutto was not provided security upon her return to Pakistan, to which Musharraf replied that she was provided complete security.

Musharraf also refused to accept the allegations against him and said Benazir Bhutto became the target of terrorists.

  2. What a shame! I am afraid he will come out of it much stronger than ever. Pakistan is a difficult country to govern and even if slow thinking Nawaz Sharif were to assume office no major changes will take place. Sharifs were akin-ed to the gangster Kray Brothers of East End upon their departure in 1998 and there future come back though not fully ruled out was considered Pakistan's misfortune. Same was considered true for Benazir & Co. Pakistan.

For all this former President Musharraf' NRO stands responsible.

People of Pakistan are fed up and demanding change in thinking and departure from how the governments in the past have delivered. .
