The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Friday condemned the recent killings and abductions of leaders of the MQM as well as the attack on the party’s polling office on Thursday.
Considering complaints received by it on behalf of the MQM, the ECP unanimously condemned the incident and termed it failure of the government contrary to the assurances given regarding maintenance of law and order in their respective provinces.
It called upon the Sindh government to take all possible measures to ensure the security of all contesting candidates and leaders of all political parties in the province and particularly in Karachi by making foolproof arrangements in this regard.
The ECP also expressed deepest condolence with the MQM and the bereaved families on the deaths of its leaders and workers.
The commission had, on several occasions, categorically directed the provincial governments to ensure the security of all contesting candidates and political leaders.
