Attacks on election candidates continued on Friday as an Awami National Party (ANP) National Assembly candidate from Karachi’s Landhi area came under a cracker bomb attack in Karachi, while a convoy of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) candidate Hashim Shahwani came under gunfire in Mach area of Balochistan’s Bolan district.

The vehicle of ANP candidate Abdur Rehman Khan Gul, who is contesting elections from NA-255 constituency in Karachi’s Landhi area, came under a cracker bomb attack in Landhi’s Muzzaffarabad Colony.

At least one child was injured whereas the ANP leader’s car was partially damaged in the attack.

The candidate remained unhurt in the incident.

Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) chief Altaf Hussain condemned the attack and said such incidents were part of terrorists’ conspiracy to keep the PPP, ANP and MQM away from the upcoming elections.

Karachi had already been closed down for the day to mourn Thursday’s bombing at its party office that killed at least six people.

Separately, four security guards were injured when militants opened fire on the convoy of JUI-F candidate in Mach area of Bolan district.

Levies sources said JUI-F candidate for PB-30 Muhammad Hashim Shahwani was on way to Quetta from Mach when his convoy came under attack.

The assailants opened fire on the convoy from nearby mountains, critically injuring four security guards.

The injured were immediately rushed to Mach hospital for medical treatment.

A large number of law enforcement personnel reached the spot and cordoned off the area as investigations into the incident went underway.
