Punjab Chief Minister Najam Sethi on Thursday said that immediate relief would be provided to citizens as load shedding would be reduced by three hours till May 1 and reduced by five hours after the said date. He further clarified that restaurants in Punjab would not be shut down after 11pm to save electricity.

The interim chief minister said that the federal government had given approval to the release of Rs 45 billion for reducing load shedding. “After release of this money, there would be a significant reduction in load shedding across the province,” he said. However, the chief minister announced that street lights would be shut off across the province to conserve energy.

Furthermore, the chief minister said that due to decrease in load shedding, the law and order situation would improve in the province.

Sethi said that as chief minister, he had been calling out energy crisis as a national problem since the first day. He stressed the need for adopting a national approach for resolving the issue.

The chief minister said that the president, prime minister, federal ministers, industrialists, traders and representatives of the media were apprised of the seriousness of the load shedding during meetings.
