No power cuts during elections, says Rawalpindi commissioner

Rawalpindi Commissioner Khalid Masood Chaudhry has directed IESCO authorities to ensure uninterrupted electricity supply at least from one day prior to May 11 so that the general elections could be held smoothly.

Chaudhry gave these directives during a meeting held with the Divisional Load Management Committee. The meeting was also attended by Rawalpindi Regional Police Officer Naseem-uz-Zaman, Rawalpindi District Coordination Officer (DCO) Rashid Mehmood Langrial, City Police Officer Abdul Razzaq Cheema, WAPDA Additional Director Muzammal Hussain, IESCO Chief Engineer Farmanullah Khan, DCOs of Chakwal, Attock and Jhelum and other officials.

Chaudhry directed the officials to end the unscheduled load shedding during elections. He was apprised that a comprehensive plan would be devised by WAPDA and the IESCO to ensure uninterrupted power supply during the election days. All Tehsil Municipal Administrations of the Rawalpindi Division will arrange vehicles that will be mounted with generators to meet any emergency situation. The commissioner ordered the authorities not to cut power supply to main water supply units of the city during load shedding hours. He also ordered a close cooperation among all the departments concerned.

Zaman said the list of all main grid stations should be provided to his office so that special security arrangements could be made.

IESCO ISSUES POWER SUSPENSION PLAN: The Islamabad Electric Supply Company (IESCO) on Thursday issued power suspension programme for various areas due to necessary maintenance and routine development work. According to IESCO spokesman, the power supply of the following feeders and grid stations would remain suspended on Saturday from 9am to 1am: Scheme-2 feeder, Mehfooz Shaheed feeder, Club-II feeder, Pindori feeder, Chak Shahzad Farm House, Rawal Town, Shahzad Town, NCRD, Park Road, Margalla Town, Orchard Scheme, Murree Road, REDCO and surrounding areas.

IESCO BoD RECOMMENDS TWO NAMES FOR CEO: The Board of Directors of Islamabad Electric Supply Company (IESCO) has recommended two names for the appointment of chief executive officer (CEO) of the company to Ministry of Water and Power (MWP).

According to sources, names of General Manager Development Malik Yousuf Awan and General Manager Transmission Muhammad Rafique had been sent to MWP for the appointment of CEO. Board of directors forwarded the names as IESCO CEO is retiring on April 22.
