Some 2,370 candidates are contesting polls on 142 National Assembly seats in Punjab, whereas about 5,643 are in the run for the 299 provincial assembly seats.
The figures issued by the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Wednesday showed that 77 candidates are contesting for two NA seats in Islamabad.
NA-48 is the constituency where 51 candidates are contesting elections among which 20 political parties have fielded their candidates whereas 31 people are taking part as independent candidates.
In Punjab, 28 candidates are taking part in the elections from NA 144, which is the most numbers of candidates in one constituency in the province.
In Punjab, of 2,370 NA candidates, 1,143 are contesting polls from the platform of different political parties, whereas 1,227 candidates are independent. One constituency where only two candidates are in the run is NA-116 Narowal.
For the provincial assembly, the most candidates are contesting from PP-149 Lahore where some 44 politicians are in the race.
Two former prime ministers Nawaz Sharif and Raja Pervez Ashraf, whereas two former CMs Shahbaz Sharif and Pervaiz Elahi are contesting polls from Punjab. Similarly, two party heads Nawaz Sharif and Imran Khan are in the run from the province.
