Election camps encroach upon the city

Various political parties have set up scores of election camps across the capital that encroach busy roads, greenbelts and streets, causing inconvenience to the residents of Islamabad.

According to sources, political party workers and candidates had obtained no permission from the Capital Development Authority (CDA) prior to setting up of the election camps. The authority took action against a few election camps and removed them but then there was no effective follow-up, which has encouraged mushroom growth of illegally set up election camps.

The residents told the INP that songs were played at a very high volume in these camps. They said political party workers had also hung banners and party flags all over the roads and streets. “Rallies on vehicles with loud music cause traffic jams and inconvenience,” they said.

The residents of the capital demanded that the CDA must take action against violators of the code of conduct issued by the Election Commission of Pakistan for electioneering.
