The Ministry of Science and Technology’s five member committee has been tasked to stop spread of avian influenza in the country, said Science and Technology Minister Dr Sania Nishtar while chairing a meeting in Islamabad.
Nishtar said adequate surveillance reporting and case management were required to stop influenza becoming a pandemic threat in the country. She expressed her concerned over lack of coordination among various departments after the devolution of the Health Ministry under the 18th Amendment. She said the federal government would be unable to meet any health related emergency without proper coordination between the centre and provinces.
The minister also said that a ban had been imposed on importing poultry related products from China.
