At least nine people were killed and more than 100 injured in an earthquake on Wednesday in eastern Afghanistan which was also strongly felt in various cities of Pakistan.
Ahmadzia Abdullzai, spokesman for Nangarhar provincial governor, said children were among the casualties and he cited widespread structural damage.
The tremors were felt across Pakistan, including Parachinar, Mohmand Agency, Shabqadar, Swat, Peshawar, Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Chiniot and Lahore. However, no loss of life has been reported in Pakistan.
According to the US Geological Survey, the earthquake measured 6.2 on the Richter scale with its epicenter in eastern Afghanistan.
Fear and panic gripped citizens of the jolted areas who rushed out to the streets and other open spaces from their homes and workplaces.
Moreover earthquake tremors were also felt in the Indian capital city of New Delhi, Kashmir and Afghanistan.
