A string of bombings in Karachi and Quetta on Tuesday once again raised fears for a peaceful general election as the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) closed its election offices in Karachi after two supporters were killed and 18 others were seriously injured in a motorcycle bombing near an election camp of the party, while at least four people were killed and 25 others sustained injuries after four successive blasts rocked Quetta within a short span of time.

KARACHI BOMBING:

The bombing in Karachi was carried out near an MQM election camp at People’s Chowrangi.

Police said the attack was caused by an explosive device planted in a motorcycle. Several people were injured and all nearby shops shut down in the wake of fear caused by the explosion. Several vehicles near the bomb site were damaged while windows of nearby buildings were also broken by the impact of the blast. Five of the injured were reported to be in critical condition.

MQM SHUTS DOWN ELECTION OFFICES

Reacting strongly to the killing of his party workers, MQM Chairman Altaf Hussain ordered party workers to shut down their election offices in view of imminent terror threats.

Altaf said that who would gather the courage to come out of their homes on election day to vote in such a hostile situation. He said that the caretaker government had failed in maintaining law and order and there was no hope for polling in a peaceful environment.

Awami National Party Sindh President Shahi Syed voiced similar concerns and said the government had failed in providing security to the people. He condemned the bombing at the MQM election camp and said the government and Election Commission should ensure security to all political parties.

QUETTA BOMBINGS:

In Quetta, the first blast was reported from the Gawalmandi area, the second explosion ripped through Jinnah Town, while the third one hit Gordat Singh area, which has long history of sectarian and ethnic violence. The police said that five people were injured in Gawalmandi.

A fourth explosion that struck near Khuda-e-Dad Chowk in Nechari Colony within an hour of three earlier back-to-back blasts left at least four people, including an Frontier Corps personnel dead and 12 others injured. Police said that heavy shooting was reported from the area after the blast, apparently carried out by a suicide bomber. A Frontier Corps checkpost was the target of the suicide attack.

The Nechari area plunged into darkness following the blast, which damaged several power transmission lines.

  2. very tragic…every single Pakistani should stand up and go out of their way to support all those parties which are under attack by terrorists while putting aside all differences. We must demand protection for all these parties! A pakistan where they are not free and safe, is a Pakistan where no one is free is safe!

  3. Conspiracy to delay or postpone elections but elections should be done what ever situation is.Elections are only future of Pakistan. Government should deploy army in sensitive places till elections.

  4. VERY BED NEWS, PLEASE PEC AND GOVT. OF PAKISTAN
POSTPONED THE ELECTIONS AND MAINTAN THE LAW AND ORDER SITUATION IN KARACHI AND ALL PAKISTAN

    • Election should be done in almost any situation. Postponing or delay elections is the aim of foreign funded terrorists. For security sensitive places should be hand over to army till elections. For future of Pakistan elections are only option.

  5. No – let Nawaz Sharif and all the pro-Taliban parties win in the election, so we can have Swat/MMA all over Pakistan again.

I guess 5 years in post-Mush period is still not enough for the pro-Taliban types to understand the devil they are fraternizing with.

Tribalism, jihalat still rules rampant as pro-Taliban types are still quite a significant portion of the population (more so in north of Pakistan – thanks to all the first generation urbanites as most are recent urban dwellers who have not gotten out of the yoke of the local mullah's powers).

This is much less of a problem among the long-time citizens of our urban centers, but in the rural areas, the mullah is still sacrosanct, and until the population of pakistan starts thinking with it's own head instead of outsourcing it to the local mullah, we will not escape this problem.

The state getting out of education altogether and giving up their children to the mullahs who are free to pick out the most suicide-prone kids from among the thousands they can screen through is another weakness.

Bring back state power in kids' education – do not leave it to the mullah – or you will get what we are reaping.

  6. Right now I see pro-Mush and anti-Mush as being the clearest indicator whether a person is:

    – pro-Taliban
    – if they are critical of Malala Yusufzai (yes, there are people in pak who criticize the little girl and not the Taliban !)

Do this poll among your own aquaintances and you will rapidly come to this conclusion – anyone who hates Mush is probably a closet Taliban or similar to them in thinking i.e. will oppress women at the first opportunity, and has serious confusion whether he is Hanafi (the madhab of his ancestors), or Wahhabi (the madhab of his gold-watch wearing benefactors).

  10. these kind of tactics provide sympathies to the secular parties and a reason to those who want to delay elections… but I’m dismayed when I c that not enough media coverage was given to those accidents when MQM’s terrorists sacked and burned the election offices of PTI and JI.

  11. Educational apps are the best way to start your kids education at home. There are many schools in America which provides early educations to your kids in very homely & friendly environment and the teachers also use these apps to help the students better understand the topic.I love the apps that are kid-friendly while also being fun for adults. I may or may not have spent more time playing Apparatus than my 5 year old has… but who needs to know… 🙂
