Two people on Tuesday threw acid on three women, a mother and two daughters, in village Nauranga on the outskirts of Multan. Police said that they arrested one suspect and the injured were shifted to Nishtar Hospital Multan.
According to the police, Altaf and Naveed had some enmity with Aziza Mai and the accused wanted to take revenge from the woman.
“On Tuesday morning they went to her house and threw acid on her,” police sources said.
Moreover, police said that when her daughters tried to save their mother, the accused also threw acid on them. Police added that one accused Altaf had been arrested and the other accused Naveed was on the run.
Last week two gunmen on a motorcycle flung acid on Bilquis, resident of Bazgir Khuzdar, and fled away. She received injures in this attack and was shifted to Civil Hospital.
There was no immediate claim of responsibility for the attack.
Dozens of people, mostly women, are disfigured every year by one of the most brutal forms of domestic violence in a country where women are often treated as second-class citizens.
Few have faith in the Pakistani courts, but campaigners say the conviction rate for acid attacks has tripled since tough new penalties were signed into law in late 2011, which introduced a minimum sentence of 14 years in jail and a fine of one million rupees ($10,000) for those found guilty of throwing acid.
More than 150 acid attacks cases have been reported in the past twelve month despite passage of a new law by Pakistani Parliament.
